WHITLEY BAY, 28 JANUARY 2026 – The Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade has delivered an official objection to North Tyneside Council regarding proposed changes to parking charges in the town, with the support of over 3100 people – reflecting significant and widespread concern within the local community and beyond.
The Chamber is delighted to acknowledge the invaluable support of The Avenue café in Whitley Bay, whose staff kindly collected in-person signatures from people without internet access. This ensured that everyone in our community had the opportunity to have their voices heard, regardless of digital connectivity.
Scott Glazebrook, Chair of Whitley Bay Chamber and local business owner, commented:
“We are absolutely thrilled by the strong turnout in support of our objection on behalf of our members. The sheer number of signatures proves just how passionately people feel about these proposed changes. It’s a testament to the power of community when we come together to stand up for what matters to us.
Now that North Tyneside Council have received this important data we hope that they will seriously reconsider their proposals and engage with the whole community on alternative solutions.
With an important local election taking place in May, community issues such as this one could decide how people vote when the time comes.”
The Chamber remains committed to keeping business owners and residents informed of any developments and will continue to advocate for the interests of our members.
The Committee Team thank everyone who participated in the petition, both online and in person, for their dedication and support.
